Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the Mathani app (App Store, Google Play and the web) and the Mathani website handle your data. They are separate: the app collects no data; the website stores your email address only if you join the waitlist yourself.

1. The Mathani app

Data the app collects

None. The app collects no personal data or usage data, sends nothing to us or to anyone else, and does not track you across apps or websites. Reading works fully offline.

Stored on your device only

To work as you expect, the app keeps the following on your device only:

• Your last reading position.
• The bookmarks you add.
• Your settings: reading layout, theme, text size, language, keep-screen-on, reciter and the memorization mistake alert.
• Recitations you played recently (up to 100 MB), surahs you download, and the recitation-recognition model if you download it. You can delete them in Settings.

This data never leaves your device and we cannot see it. It is deleted when you delete the app.

Internet

The app goes online only when you ask it to: when you play a recitation or download a surah, the audio files come from everyayah.com, quranicaudio.com and audio-cdn.tarteel.ai; when you download the memorization model, it comes from GitHub. These requests carry no identifier of you or your device. Those servers see your IP address, as with any connection, and we receive nothing from them.

Permissions

Microphone: the app asks for it the first time you start a memorization session, after explaining why. It is used only during the session, to follow your recitation, and stops when you pause or end it. Your voice is processed on your device by a model that runs there: it is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere, and a session's result is shown once and then forgotten. If you decline, everything except memorization keeps working.

The app does not ask for access to your location, camera, contacts, photos or any other permission.

Actions you take

• Copy and share an ayah: when you tap Share, the ayah text goes to the app you pick in your device's share sheet, under that app's policy. It does not pass through us.
• Source links: tapping the tanzil.net, everyayah.com or qul.tarteel.ai links on the About screen opens them in your browser, under those sites' policies.

Crash reports from Apple and Google

If you have agreed in your device settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple or Google may give us crash reports and aggregate usage statistics that do not identify you, under their own policies. You can turn this off at any time in your device settings. The app itself does not collect this data.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages. Because it collects no data, it collects no data from children.

Data deletion

We hold no data about you from the app, so there is nothing for us to delete. To remove the bookmarks, settings and downloads on your device, delete the app.

The web app (read.mthani.app)

Mathani is also available in your browser at read.mthani.app. It works like the phone app and collects nothing about you: no account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking cookies.

• Your data stays in your browser: bookmarks, settings, your reading position, downloaded recitations and the memorization model are kept by your browser on your device, for this site only. They are not sent to us or shared with the phone app, and clearing this site's data in your browser deletes them.
• What your browser downloads, and from where: the app and the Mushaf pages come from Cloudflare, which hosts the site; the memorization model from Hugging Face; recitations from everyayah.com, quranicaudio.com and audio-cdn.tarteel.ai. Like any website, these servers see your IP address; we receive nothing from them about you.
• Microphone: used only during a memorization session, after you allow it in your browser. Your voice is recognised inside the browser and is never recorded, stored or sent.
• Storage permission: your browser may ask whether the site can keep its data, which protects your bookmarks and downloads from being cleared when your device is low on space.

2. The Mathani website and waitlist

Information we collect

If you join the waitlist on the website, we store only:

• The email address you enter.
• The date and time you signed up.
• Your browser language (for example Arabic or English), to write to you in that language.
• The page you came from, if any, to learn how you found us.

We do not ask for your name, phone number or any password, and the website uses no cookies, tracking or advertising analytics. This data is separate from the app and is never linked to it.

How we use it

• To tell you about the app's launch and important updates, such as early-access testing.

We do not sell, rent or share your data with anyone for marketing or advertising.

Where it is stored

In a private Google Sheets spreadsheet, through Google Apps Script. Only the Mathani team can access it, and it is subject to Google's privacy policy and security standards.

Third-party services used by the website

These services receive basic technical information (such as IP address and browser type) when a page loads:

• Google Fonts, for the website font.
• Tailwind CSS, for page styling.
• The hosting provider, which may keep temporary technical logs for security and operation.

Retention and your rights

We keep your email while you remain subscribed. You may at any time ask what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted permanently: email us or reply to any message from us, and we will delete it within 30 days at most. The waitlist is not directed at children under 13; if your child signed up without your permission, contact us and we will delete their email immediately.

Data security

App data never leaves your device. Waitlist data is accessible only to the Mathani team, and we take reasonable measures to protect it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the change here and update the "Last updated" date. If a future version of the app adds a feature that collects data, we will update this policy and the stores' privacy information before releasing it.
